No community should witness such unfortunate scenes – Abuakwa South MP condemns shooting at Kyebi Zongo
The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, has condemned the shooting of a young man during a confrontation between a joint Military and Police team and some youth at Kyebi Zongo in the Eastern Region, calling for calm as investigations into the incident continue.
The victim reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the operation, which is believed to have involved security personnel attached to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).
In a statement released on Sunday, July 12, Dr. Agyemang described the incident as deeply regrettable, stressing that violence has no place in any community.
“I strongly condemn every form of violence and brutality that endangers the lives and safety of our people. While the full facts surrounding the incident are yet to be officially established, no community should have to witness such unfortunate scenes,” he stated.
The lawmaker disclosed that he had been informed the injured man was receiving medical treatment at the Kyebi Government Hospital and, on behalf of the people of Abuakwa South, wished him a swift and full recovery.
Dr. Agyemang also appealed to residents, particularly the youth, to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions while the relevant authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
He urged the appropriate security agencies to carry out a comprehensive, impartial and transparent investigation to establish the facts and ensure anyone found culpable is held accountable.
“As Member of Parliament, I remain committed to engaging all relevant stakeholders to ensure that peace, law and order prevail within our constituency,” he said.
The MP further encouraged residents to stay united, support one another and work together to maintain peace and stability in Abuakwa South as investigations proceed.
The shooting reportedly occurred on Saturday, July 11, at Kyebi Zongo during a confrontation between some youth and security personnel. One young man was injured, although the exact circumstances that led to the incident have yet to be officially determined by the authorities.
