The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has instructed all aspiring presidential candidates to immediately suspend their campaign activities and redirect their efforts toward the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
At a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down on Tuesday, July 29, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua announced the directive, emphasising that the party’s full attention must be focused on retaining the Akwatia parliamentary seat.
“With the crucial Akwatia by-election ahead, the party has decided that all campaign activities for the presidential primaries must be paused. Aspiring candidates will be allowed to resume their campaigns only after the by-election is concluded.” Mr. Kodua stated.
He urged all party members, particularly presidential hopefuls, to dedicate their energy, time, and resources to supporting the Akwatia campaign effort.
“We call on every member of the NPP especially those seeking to lead the party to commit fully to helping us secure victory in Akwatia,” he said.
Mr. Kodua further assured that once the by-election is over, candidates will be granted the freedom to campaign nationwide and engage with delegates in preparation for the party’s presidential primaries.
