Nine miners have been trapped following the collapse of a mining pit on Wednesday evening at Konongo in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The miners were reportedly working underground when the pit suddenly caved in, blocking their exit route and leaving them trapped beneath the debris.
Rescue teams, together with fellow miners, have been at the site working to rescue the victims, although no one had been brought out at the time of the initial report.
However, the Asante Akyem Central Municipal NADMO Director, Lanbon Joseph, has confirmed that all nine miners are alive and safe.
Speaking to Adom News, he said authorities are maintaining continuous communication with the trapped miners through radio contact, assuring that none of them has died.
According to him, the miners are currently surviving on water they carried into the pit while rescue operations continue on the surface.
He appealed to families and residents to remain calm as emergency teams intensify efforts to safely bring the miners out.
Mr. Lanbon added that response teams, including the National Ambulance Service, are on standby to provide immediate medical attention once the miners are rescued.
