Nhyiraba Kojo still in prison due to inability to satisfy purging condition – Lawyer
Nhyiraba Kojo, a popular hiplife musician, has yet to be discharged from the Sekondi Prisons five days after the Sekondi Commercial Court detained him for 30 days.
In a case filed by four Fijai inhabitants about noise from his nightclub, the musician was convicted for contempt of court.
According to his lawyer, Philip Fiifi Buckman, his client is having difficulty clearing himself.
Communicating to Citi News, lawyer Philip Fiifi Buckman stated that Nhyiraba Kojo had already met the court’s demands to install soundproof equipment at his NK City nightclub before being sentenced to prison.
He also stated that his client was unable to file a complete report with the court on time due to bureaucracy from the EPA and the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis Environmental Health Office.
“What the court asked him to do with regard to the substantive matter was done but because he couldn’t meet the deadline, the court found him guilty of contempt. It has become difficult because of bureaucracy from state institutions.”
Following Nhyiraba Kojo’s failure to comply with the court’s interlocutory injunction to stop the noise at the nightclub, ensure soundproof installation at the NK City Nightclub, and submit a report to the court, the court sentenced him to imprisonment.
Edmund Sampana Dienorng, Nicholas Imbeah, and Samuel Kofi Dzukey are the petitioners.
