Former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will be the leanest in Ghana’s history, with far fewer ministers than has ever been seen.
Mr Mahama said this after denying receiving GHS14 million in ex-gratia in 2013.
Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), made the allegation.
Several calls for President Akufo-Addo to shrink his government have gone unheeded.
The number of ministers serving under the Nana Akufo-Addo government jumped from 110 to 123 ministers in February 2019, after the appointment of ministers and deputy ministers to the six newly created regions.
Mr Mahama had in the past said “there can be no justification for some of the ministerial portfolios created by this administration.”
Positions such as; the Senior Minister, Minister of State in the Office of the Vice President, Minister of State in the Office of the Senior Minister, Ministers for Procurement, Monitoring and Evaluation, Business Development, and Special Initiatives, to name a few have raised several concerns.
