Tensions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) reached a boiling point in the Kumawu Constituency of the Ashanti Region as a group of angry youth stormed the party’s constituency office, causing extensive property damage.
The attackers vandalized computers, chairs, tables, and crucial documents, leaving the office in disarray.
The disturbance is believed to be linked to internal party disputes over the selection of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Kumawu, a position that has sparked significant conflict within the party.
Suale Orlanto Yakubu, the Secretary for the Kumawu Constituency, addressed the media following the incident, offering insight into the tensions and the challenges the party is facing internally.
In a similar development in the Talensi Constituency of the Upper East Region, disgruntled party members staged a protest in opposition to the President’s nominee for DCE.
According to report, the protest was sparked by dissatisfaction with the appointment of John Millim Naabwomya as the nominee for the position.
Both incidents highlight growing dissatisfaction within the NDC ranks over local political appointments, with party foot soldiers expressing frustration over their lack of influence in the selection process.
