The Member of Parliament for the Tamale North Constituency, Alhassan Suhuyini, has advised Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, Mr. Kojo Bonsu, and others who are seeking to contest the NDC flagbearer to stop and allow the ex-president John Mahama to lead the party in the 2024 elections.
Former President John Mahama formally declared his intention to run for the opposition NDC flag bearer on February 21.
Meanwhile, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, the former finance minister, and Mr. Kojo Bonsu, the former Mayor of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, have announced their decision to contest for the flagbearer of the NDC.
Reacting to the ex-president’s declaration in an interview with Kwesi Parker Willson, host of Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the Tamale North MP said John Mahama should be allowed to go unopposed.
“Dr Kwebena Duffour, Kojo Bonsu, and others contends should stop it and allow us to focus on rescuing this country with John Mahama. They are people who have worked tirelessly and hard for the country. Especially, Dr. Duffour, no one can write away the contribution he has made for this country and the development of the NDC. Kojo Bonsu did a fantastic job when he was the mayor of Kumasi, he has been one of the branding gurus when it comes to party marketing, but this is not for them; they should just stop it. “With all due respect, they should stop it and let us focus on what is meaningful and feasible.” He stated.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will hold its presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday, May 13, 2023, to elect a flagbearer and parliamentary candidates for the 2024 elections.
