Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, over their promise to implement a 24-hour economy.
Addressing party supporters at Abossey Okai in the Ablekuma Central Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, Dr. Opoku Prempeh questioned the practicality of the decision by John Mahama to let nightclubs operate 24 hours a day when he becomes president.
He argued that a 24-hour economy is driven by the private sector, not the government, and that Mahama’s promise is unrealistic. Dr. Opoku Prempeh also accused Mahama of inconsistency, citing his past criticism of the Free SHS program as a “419 scheme” that was “destroying education.”
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh addressed, questioned how Mahama could claim to have initiated the program when he had previously spoken against it.
On his part, Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, MP for Assin Central, expressed his enthusiasm for the NPP’s decision to campaign in Abossey Okai, citing his personal experience as a businessman. He highlighted the struggles of spare part dealers in the area, who face high duties at the Ghana Port.
Agyapong revealed that he and Dr. Bawumia have witnessed these challenges firsthand and assured that Dr. Bawumia will reduce taxes at the Ghana Port if elected President in 2024. This move aims to stimulate business growth and ease the burden on entrepreneurs.
The MP urged Ghanaians to maintain their trust in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and vote for him overwhelmingly, emphasizing his commitment to cutting unnecessary charges and taxes at the Ghana Port.
