Nana Ayimedu Brempong III , Kontihene of Adjena Tafoman Akwamu Traditional Council in collaboration in the Eastern Region of Ghana, collaboration with an American Non-governmental organisation (NGO), ‘My Neighbors Keeper Foundation’ have pledged to release some females inmates of the Kumasi Central Prisons.
The move comes after Nana Ayimedu, founder of Nana Ayimedu Foundation and some representatives of the US Seattle based NGO, who were sent by Founder, Rev. Irene Wallace, dinned with the female inmates last Friday.
The inmates via the dinner had the opportunity to share their sad stories with My Neighbors Keeper Foundation and the Adjena Tafoman Kontihene (Nana Ayimedu) who doubles as Senior Police Detective at the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters.
Despite it being, an abomination for a chief in Ghana to openly eat from outside his home, Nana Ayimedu Brempong III despised all odds and dinned with the prisoners where he wept after hearing sad stories of some inmates.
After a successful dinner, the Adjena Tafo Kontihene and the American NGO representative, Joseph Benyarko pledged to legally assist some inmates who need just some little aid to get them out of the correction home.
The two foundations as part of their partnership last year visited some stranded and distressed foreign nationals from Ghana, Nigeria, Guinea, Gambia and Bangladesh in the streets of Mount Vernon, Yonkers, Virginia and Washington State, who went to the US as a result of trafficking and migrant smuggling.
Speaking to this portal in an interview, Nana Ayimedu, the Anti-Human Trafficking advocate expressed his willingness to pass through legal means to release some detainees.
The Senior Police Detective of the Ashanti Regional Police command however, pleaded with NGOs, institutions and individuals to assist in releasing some inmates who have being jailed as a result of minor cases.
ADP Hannah Hilder Ewoame, Commander of the Kumasi Central Prisons female unit on the other hand expressed her gratitude for the kind gesture. She declared that, the Prisons need a lot of assistance, therefore all stakeholders should make it a responsibility to give it a helping hand. She added that, some prisoners are still in custody due lack of a little fund therefore all cooperatives and individuals should endeavour to assist in releasing them.
