NACOC intercepts 40 drums of Sodium Cyanide and 58 cartons of cigarettes

The Upper West Regional Command of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted two Rhino Kia trucks carrying unapproved substances at Kaleo in the Nadowli District of the Upper West Region.

In a Facebook post on Monday, February 23, NACOC revealed that the consignments—bound for Burkina Faso—contained 58 cartons of foreign cigarettes, 182 cartons of unapproved pharmaceutical products, and 40 drums of sodium cyanide.

The items were being transported in trucks with registration numbers GS 5699-18 and GC 1871-11.

According to the Commission, officers received intelligence on Sunday, February 1, 2026, about the vehicles carrying the suspected consignments. A subsequent search confirmed that the items were being transported without the necessary documentation or regulatory approval.

The drivers and their assistants have been handed over to the Upper West Regional Police Command for further investigation and potential prosecution.
