The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three men suspected of being involved in illegal arms smuggling, following a targeted intelligence-led operation in Savelugu.
The suspects — Gaba Abdallah Alhassan, Alhassan Abdallah, and Alhassan Abdul Kudus — were apprehended on May 1, 2025, at separate locations during a coordinated law enforcement effort.
Police recovered a substantial cache of weapons from the suspects, including an AK-47 assault rifle, a submachine gun (SMG), a Smith & Wesson SD40 VE pistol, and a single-barrel shotgun. The operation also led to the seizure of two magazines and assorted ammunition, including rounds for AK-47s, pistols, and BB cartridges.
All three individuals are currently in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities have indicated that legal proceedings will follow to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to combating illegal arms trafficking and maintaining security in the region.
