“My spirit is too big for Stonebwoy” — Shatta Wale fires shots

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has reflected on his long-standing relationship with fellow musician Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy, claiming the award-winning artiste looked up to him before attaining fame.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Shatta Wale said Stonebwoy frequently visited him during his early days in music and regarded him as a mentor.

“Stonebwoy is my boy. He used to be with me. He used to come to the first room I rented. He used to call me ‘Daddy’ and come to me and stuff like that. But when he started getting into the media, and people started saying, ‘You have talent,’ ‘Oh no, you are even better than Shatta Wale,’ things changed,” he claimed.

Asked whether he would be comfortable if Stonebwoy walked into the studio during the interview, Shatta Wale said he had no problem with it but suggested Stonebwoy would feel uneasy in his presence.

“I’m cool, but you know he can’t watch me. He will fall down. My spirit is too big for him. I’m too confident. I’m not the fake type. The things he says, he doesn’t follow them. But the things I say, I follow them. When we say we are coming to beat you, we are coming to beat you. We are not coming to play or ask you what your name is. He knows me very well, and because of some of the things he has said, he feels that if he meets me one-on-one…” Shatta Wale stated.

The SM boss also shared his thoughts on Stonebwoy’s relationship with Samini, whom Stonebwoy has often described as his mentor.

“Sometimes when I see Stonebwoy, I feel bad because I feel like he hates Samini. He doesn’t want Samini to be bigger than him. Which ‘bigger’ are we talking about? You people don’t know,” he alleged.

Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have had one of the most talked-about rivalries in Ghana’s music industry over the years, despite occasionally expressing mutual respect. Their relationship has repeatedly made headlines, with public exchanges and reconciliatory moments shaping conversations among music fans.

Shatta Wale’s latest remarks have reignited debate on social media, with fans of both artistes divided over his claims about Stonebwoy and his relationship with Samini. Stonebwoy has not publicly responded to the comments.
