“My mother is only acting over neglect claims because of issues with my dad” – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has broken his silence on the long-standing tension between him and his mother, Madam Elsie Evelyn Avemegah, dismissing her public complaints of neglect as an act influenced by an old family disagreement.

Speaking on ‘The Honest Bunch’ Podcast in Lagos, Nigeria, the “On God” hitmaker alleged that his mother’s accusations were connected to her unresolved issues with his father, whom he said has played a major role in his life.

According to Shatta Wale, the disagreement between his parents has lasted for years, and he believes his closeness to his father has made his mother feel he has taken sides.

“She has a problem with my dad. And for 25 years now, they have been fighting. And I have been telling her, ‘Talk to each other. When you guys were going to have sex, you didn’t tell us. Now that we are here, you guys say you are not talking,’” he said.

The musician explained that his bond with his father developed because of the guidance and support he received from him, a situation he believes contributed to his mother’s reaction.

“Because my dad has been like a teacher in my life, I am closer to him. And my mum feels like I was on his side. So she decided to do some acting,” Shatta Wale claimed.

The dancehall star also rejected allegations that he abandoned his mother, insisting that he has supported her financially and provided material assistance on several occasions.

“I have bought several cars for her. I have given her money so many times. We rented a house for her that I wanted to later buy. Sammy Flex took her there, but it was chaos,” he stated.

The controversy between Shatta Wale and his mother gained public attention after Madam Elsie Evelyn Avemegah accused the musician of neglect and revealed difficulties she had faced, including housing and health challenges.

However, Shatta Wale has maintained that he has always cared for his mother and believes the public narrative surrounding their relationship does not reflect the full story. His latest comments have reignited discussions about the private family matter, with fans and critics divided over both sides of the dispute.
