‘My loyalty is to NPP’ – Abanga rules out sharing party secrets with twin

Newly elected National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abanga Fusaini Yakubu, has dismissed suggestions that his close relationship with his twin brother, who is a Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), could influence his political allegiance.

Mr Abanga said he remains firmly committed to the NPP and would not defect to the NDC or share the party’s strategies with his twin brother, Hassan Abanga.

Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV, he explained that political differences within his family had never affected his loyalty to the NPP.

He said while his mother supports the NPP, his father and twin brother are members of the NDC. Despite the differences, the family has agreed to respect each other’s political choices and avoid political discussions during family gatherings to prevent unnecessary tension.

“This is not possible. If somebody should come and tell you I will expose my political strategies and ideas to the NDC, it doesn’t make sense. I love the NPP, so whoever knows me can testify to my loyalty to the New Patriotic Party,” he said.

Mr Abanga said his commitment to the NPP dates back to 2014, stressing that he has served the party wholeheartedly over the years.

“I’ve spent the whole of 2014 to date serving the New Patriotic Party, wholeheartedly,” he stated.

He also ruled out any possibility of being persuaded to join the NDC because of his relationship with his twin brother.

“Excuse my words, not God, if you want me to use that word. Nobody. It’s NPP and NPP. And that is the NPP that I believe in,” he said.

Mr Abanga further expressed confidence in the NPP brand and pledged to contribute to its growth in his new role.

“Obia b3didi’ brand is not a small brand. It’s a very big brand; if I’m able to manage it well, one day the party people will lift me,” he said.

He was elected NPP National Youth Organiser during the party’s national executive elections at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Mr Abanga polled 1,550 votes to win the position ahead of five other contenders. Clement Opoku Gyamfi received 631 votes, Michael Osei Boateng polled 78, Vera Oye Bram-Larbi secured 44, Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah obtained 46, while Alfred Kumi Ababio received 25 votes.
