“My children grew up without motherly love” – Kwaku Manu

Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwaku Manu has made a personal revelation about his family, disclosing that his children have spent their formative years living with him rather than their mother.

According to the Kumawood star, he has been the primary parent in his children’s daily lives since they were young, while their relationship with their mother has largely been maintained through phone conversations.

“They’ve never stayed with their mother. I’ve lived with them since they were kids. My youngest child is 11 years old, and when you ask him about their mother, he wouldn’t know what to say,” he revealed.

Kwaku Manu said the limited physical contact has also meant that his children have little basis for describing their mother’s personality or the kind of values they could have picked up from her.

“They only communicate with her through phone calls. My children have not experienced motherly love before, but they talk to their mother on the phone,” he added.

He further explained that while his children may struggle to describe their mother, they know him well because of the amount of time they have spent under his care.

“How some people would want to talk about their mother, they wouldn’t have anything to say about her. But when you ask them about me, their father, they can tell you how I am,” he noted.

The actor said he hopes his children will carry forward some of the principles he has tried to instil in them, particularly humility, patience, truthfulness and bravery.

“I would want my children to learn to be humble and patient just like me. They should also learn to speak the truth because all my children know that I hate lies. I’m very courageous, so they can learn that too from me,” he said.

Kwaku Manu’s comments offer a rare glimpse into his experience as a father and the unusual family circumstances under which he has raised his children.
