Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, a presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed his belief that his absence from the Akufo-Addo-led government is a significant detriment to the nation.
Speaking in an interview with Kwesi Parker-Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the former General Secretary of the ruling party indicated that he is not disappointed by the fact that he’s not appointed by President Akufo-Addo during both of his terms.
“My life has not been fashioned by the position I occupied. I only want to serve. I was not disappointed because I think my absence from Akufo-Addo is a loss to his government and the country. I know what I can contribute, and he (Akufo-Addo) knows.” He stated.
Mr. Agyapong lamented that there are things in the government that wouldn’t have happened if he had been part of it.
“There are things in the government that, if I were there, I would fight against, and it wouldn’t have happened. If I had been the general secretary at the time we won, I could have advised the government on certain decisions. Like the size of the government. So I am not disappointed. After all, I have been press secretary to ex-President Kufour; it’s not a minister, but it’s a rank of minister, and I have been to a lot of places in the world. So those things don’t worry me; however, the contribution I would have made to the transformation of our country, and that is what I bring to the table,” he said.
He further asserted that he has no problem with President Akufo-Addo.
“Even when I was not part of it, President Akufo-Addo called me in 2020 to come and help. You saw me moving around with him. So if I had wronged him, would he have called me?” Mr. Agyapong quizzed
