The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has revealed plans to engage the Finance Minister, Dr. Ato Forson, on the potential introduction of tax credits for private corporations that contribute to the National Peace Council (NPC).
According to him, this initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to secure sufficient funding for the NPC’s operations.
During a familiarization visit on February 17, Muntaka emphasized the need to strengthen the Council’s capacity to address the growing resurgence of chieftaincy conflicts in various parts of the country.
“We have seen in situations for lack of peace, people just loot because there’s some little confusion and people just go looting shops. We don’t pray to get there, to prevent that from happening, the Peace Council must be resourced. So that they can continue to engage and dialogue so that we can douse most of these fires [conflict]. And when these fires are off, we can have a peaceful environment to be able to operate.
“I will be talking to the Minister of Finance to encourage him to give tax credit to persons who donate to Peace Council. If you donate to the Peace Council, you can be receipted and use that to reduce your tax burden.”
