The Combined Traders Association at the Kumasi Kejetia Market in the Ashanti Region is demanding the immediate removal of the Managing Director of the Kumasi City Market Limited, Mr. Kofi Duffour, over what they describe as incompetence on his part.
The Combined Kumasi Kejetia Traders Association is sounding the alarm, warning that the market is on the brink of collapse if urgent action isn’t taken.
They express no confidence in the current manager, Mr. Kofi Duffour, claiming he is incompetent and his continued tenure will only exacerbate tensions between traders and management.
Madam Patricia, an executive member of the association, speaking with Nana Yaw Mensah Joel on Oyerepa Breakfast show, explained how the managing director has made contentious decisions to sell emergency space and allocate market spaces to hawkers, resulting in overcrowding and contradicting the original design of the market.
“We are calling on the highest authority of the land to remove Mr. Duffour as the managing director of Kejetia Market before he collapses the market totally. He is only interested in doing politics with everything happening in the market; he can’t handle the market with this incompetence,” she said.
Additionally, the Managing Director has neglected victims of the recent fire outbreak in the market, despite a donation of GH¢300,000 from the Vice President intended to support those affected.
The association is now urging President Akufo-Addo to remove the Managing Director from office, threatening to take matters into their own hands if no action is taken.
Meanwhile, the fire outbreak victims are appealing to the government to reconstruct the market, which was severely damaged in the blaze.
