On Monday morning, the Member of Parliament for Sagnaligu, Alhassan Bashir Alhassan Fuseini, aka A.B.A. Fuseini stormed Parliament House with a ball of Kenkey and a fish to demonstrate to the house the level of hardship in the country.
Addressing the parliament during the debate on the 2023 budget and economic policy, the ranking member on communication said;
“To burden Ghanaians with additional taxes and suffering. Prosperity will be our judge. The country is watching us, and as people, we must stand up in defence of our people. Those additional increase in VAT, income taxes, and removing threshold will create more hardship for our people.”
“Mr Speaker, I brought before this house a ball of Kenkey that I purchased for GHC 2 last year, which is now GHC 4. The fish I bought for Ghc6 is now Ghc12. Mr. Speaker, it is abundantly clear that through the incompetence of the government, especially the economic management team and the minister for finance, the economy has been run into a ditch.”
