A woman identified as Ernestina has accused her boyfriend, Mohammed, of withholding GH¢20,000 she allegedly entrusted to him to establish a maize business after he promised to marry her and help secure her future.

Speaking on Oyerepa Afutuo, hosted by Auntie Naa on Thursday, July 30, 2026, Ernestina said she met Mohammed about three years ago while she was engaged in commercial sex work. According to her, she was honest with him about her source of income after he expressed interest in a relationship, and he assured her that her past would not prevent him from marrying her.

“I was into hook up three years ago, and met a man called Mohammed. I am Ernestina. I didn’t reveal my hook up business to him until he showed interest in me. Then he asked to visit me at my residence. Because I was into hook up, the house was occupied by girls doing the same business. So, to be transparent, I told him what business I was into. He accepted and told me he would marry me,” she said.

She explained that Mohammed convinced her to invest the money she earned into what he described as a maize business, assuring her that he would eventually establish the venture in her name.

“I told him I had been doing hook up for six months. He then told me he was into the maize business, so whenever I got money, I should give it to him so he could help me establish my own maize business. He promised to make a container for me. So anytime I saved money, I gave it to him for the business. I gave him GH¢2,000 at first, then GH¢2,900 and GH¢5,000. He even took me to where he was making the container,” she stated.

Ernestina alleged that despite waiting for three years, Mohammed has neither returned the money nor fulfilled his promise to establish the business.

“For three years now, he hasn’t said anything about my money. The last time I asked him, he told me he had lent my money to a driver friend and that I would only be paid when the friend refunded him. He owes me GH¢20,000,” she alleged.

The mother of five said financial hardship pushed her into commercial sex work after a friend introduced her to it. She explained that she left her children in the care of her sister while she worked to provide for them.

“I have five kids. I was suffering so much, so there was a woman I confided in who introduced me to hook up. So I left my children in the care of my sister to do that business,” she said.

Ernestina added that she no longer wants to continue the relationship, accusing Mohammed of failing to support her or her children despite his promises.

“I need my money back. He has made my children’s education a mess. Nothing showed that he loved me. He never gave me money for housekeeping. I have been taking care of the children myself, though he said he would be taking care of them for me. I don’t love him anymore. I can’t continue life with him,” she said.
