It has recently come to light that an astonishing amount of over GHS53 million was stolen from the residence of the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources. This shocking revelation follows the scandal involving the theft of various foreign and local currencies by a house-help employed by the former Minister.
On Friday, July 21, it was revealed that two house helps of the Minister were facing charges in an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian cedis from the former minister’s residence in Abelenkpe, Accra, in October 2022. The accused individuals, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei are said to have stolen the money and personal belongings of the couple between July and October 2022.
However, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe has obtained credible information from highly reliable sources indicating that more than GHS53 million Ghana Cedis was stolen from the Minister’s home last year. Despite the Minister’s efforts to recover some of the stolen funds from the two suspects, a significant amount remains outstanding and is currently being dealt with in court.
Speaking on TV3, Lawyer Edudzi revealed the house help involved was not yet 18 at the time of the alleged crime and was hence put before a juvenile court earlier.
“I know on authority the amount involved is more than Ghs53 million,” He said.
Madam Dapaah resigned from her position as a result of the scandal.
She said she decided to step down “because I do not want this matter to become a preoccupation of government and a hindrance to the work of government at such a crucial time.”
President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that she will be vindicated.
