“Mocking my disability is cruelty” – Stonebwoy fires back at critics

Ghanaian music star Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy, has spoken candidly about years of ridicule directed at his physical condition, describing the repeated use of his disability as a form of deliberate hostility.

The award-winning dancehall and Afrobeats artiste, who lost the use of his right leg after a childhood accident, said he has learned not to allow such comments to define him, insisting that those who repeatedly attack him reveal more about their own mindset.

“Opponents have called me a cripple. Every day they do. But it doesn’t get to me. For anybody to be able to use that against you, that means they’re actually not in the right frame of mind. They don’t know better. If it’s a mistake, that’s one thing. But if it becomes a national anthem for them, that’s another,” Stonebwoy said.

The BHIM Nation founder also reflected on the difficult experiences that shaped his personality and prepared him for the challenges of the entertainment industry. He recalled growing up under difficult conditions, including struggling to pay school fees and walking long distances to attend school despite having a leg supported with metal.

“As a growing child, I used to be sacked from school for school fees. There were times I had to struggle to go to school because of the situation. Anyone listening knows walking from Ashaiman Lebanon to Tema Methodist Day Secondary School in Community 11 while having a stiff knee with metals in it,” he revealed.

According to Stonebwoy, those hardships built his resilience and gave him the mental strength needed to survive in the competitive music industry, where he has faced both professional and personal battles.

“It toughens your mind. You have to have a different source of inspiration to be able to move even within the music industry,” he added.

Stonebwoy, who has become one of Ghana’s most internationally recognised musicians with several awards and global collaborations, continues to use his life story as motivation, turning experiences that once brought pain into a message of perseverance and triumph.
