The Minority Health Caucus in Parliament has strongly criticized the dismissal of Dr. Adam Atiku, Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), describing the move as unlawful, emotionally driven, and a clear violation of constitutional and administrative procedures.
Dr. Atiku was relieved of his duties on Tuesday, April 23, 2025, following allegations of negligence linked to the recent death of a patient at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Ward. The dismissal was announced by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh during a visit to the facility.
In a statement responding to the development, the Minority Caucus condemned the Minister’s actions, arguing that the dismissal was carried out without due process and in direct contravention of the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act.
The group further accused the Minister of acting in an “authoritarian” manner, citing his alleged statement that “the appointing authority owes nobody any explanation” as evidence of disregard for democratic accountability.
“The law does not grant the Health Minister unilateral powers to dismiss a teaching hospital CEO, especially in the manner and under the circumstances in question,” the statement asserted.
