The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Manso Adubia Constituency, Yaw Frimpong Addo has stated that government in Collaboration with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) is set to implement far reaching measures policy to mitigate the high cost of food prices in the country.
According to the Deputy Minister, foodstuffs are a bit costly in the Urban markets whiles chunk of them are cheaper in the rural areas. Hence the move to transport these foodstuffs to the Urban centres at the expense of the government and the Agric Ministry.
He explained further that, the ministry and the government will engage the market Queens in this exercise for a good implementation of the policy.
He added that the truck drivers will go to the farming communities and transport the foodstuffs which have been bought by the ‘Market Queens’ from the farm gates to the Urban Centers in order to curb the high cost of foodstuffs .
He stated that the move will also help farmers get good pricing for their farm produce and also alleviate the burden of transportation fares from the market women.
Again he explained that foodstuffs are costly in the urban centres because the market women complain about the high cost of transportation, therefore they imbed the transportation cost into the foodstuffs in order to break even.
The deputy minister made the disclosure on Oyerepa Breakfast Show.
