The Deputy Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Hon Charles Acheampong, in collaboration with NCA has launched the ECOWAS Free Roaming Initiative alongside Benin and Togo.
This groundbreaking collaboration enables seamless communication across borders, eliminating high roaming charges and the need for multiple SIM cards.
The deputy minister emphasized the initiative’s significance in fostering regional integration, economic development, and closer ties among West African nations. The launch marks a new chapter in Ghana’s relationships with Togo and Benin.

The Minister commended telecom regulators from Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Ivory Coast for their efforts in implementing the phased approach recommended by the 18th ECOWAS Ministers’ meeting in April 2022.
This development is expected to enhance regional cooperation, trade, and social interactions, aligning with the ECOWAS vision of a borderless West Africa.
At the launch event, Dr. Joe Anokye, Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), says the ECOWAS Commission played a crucial role in crafting and implementing the agreement.
The Implementation and Technical Teams from Ghana, Togo, and Benin worked tirelessly to overcome obstacles and achieve the initiative’s goals.
He added that the ECOWAS Free Roaming Initiative, enabling citizens to use mobile data in the three countries without incurring extra costs while traveling. This initiative aims to improve the lives of citizens by making communication more seamless, accessible, and affordable.
This development is expected to enhance regional cooperation, trade, and social interactions, aligning with the ECOWAS vision of a borderless West Africa.
