The Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Nana Asantewaa Attakorah, has remanded six persons into police custody over allegations of stealing and selling children.

Among those remanded is Lucinda Naomi Otchere, a midwife at Trust Mother and Child Hospital in Osu. A 74-year-old retired midwife was, however, granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.

The suspects are Janet Larbie, Mary Dotse, Yvonne Twumasi, Sikena Umar, Grace Afriyie, Regina Agyeiwaa, and Lucinda Naomi Otchere.

The suspects are expected to reappear before the same court on May 27, 2026.

According to a report gathered by Nana Ansah, seven people were arrested in Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality in connection with the case.

Prosecutor ASP Sylvester Agbezudor told the court that one of the suspects allegedly abducted a seven-year-old girl from Kasoa and handed her over to a midwife who acted as an agent.

The child was then allegedly sold to a woman in Accra.

When confronted by the child’s parents, the suspect initially denied involvement but later admitted to the act during further interrogation.

This led to the arrest of the remaining suspects.

The prosecutor further stated that during interrogation, police discovered that the suspects had also sold an eight-month-old baby and a five-year-old girl belonging to the same mother.

ASP Agbezudor disclosed that the eight-month-old baby was allegedly sold for GH¢60,000.

Currently, the police have been able to rescue the eight-month-old baby, while the five-year-old child is still missing.

After the court proceedings, the mother of the seven-year-old girl, whose name has been withheld, told Nana Ansah that her daughter informed her that the suspect had sold her to a wealthy woman in Accra.

Meanwhile, the father of the two children — the eight-month-old baby and the five-year-old girl — said the family has been having sleepless nights since their five-year-old child has not yet been found.
