The Deputy Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Ltd., Nana Osei Bamfo, has shared a new vision for the company as they plan to expand its operations by importing electric buses early next year.
Metro Mass Transit Ltd. was incorporated in March 2003 as a limited liability company under the Ghana Companies Code (1963) Act 179. The company is a public-private partnership between the Government of Ghana holding 45% of the shares and six institutional investors holding 55% of the shares combined.
Metro Mass Transit Limited is a leading provider of public transportation services in Ghana. We operate a fleet of buses that serve over 500,000 passengers daily across the country. Our vision is to provide safe, reliable, and affordable mass transit options that enhance mobility for the people of Ghana.
In an exclusive interview with the Deputy Managing Director on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show with Nana Yaw Mensah Joel Monday morning, he explained that the ultimate goal of this project is to optimize productivity to ensure the growth of the company.
“These electric buses coming into the system are going to ease the pressure on the Metro Mass Transit and make movement easier because, with this, we have no problem with fuel or anything else,“ he said.
According to Mr. Bamfo, all these efforts are to reduce its operational costs. The company is embarking on an exercise that seeks to bring in electric vehicles to help reduce pressure and improve efficiency in the Metro Mass Transit.
Adding to that, this new system will begin with Kumasi to Accra transit before extending to other parts of the country with these electric vehicles.
He also hinted at the opening night show of a brand new parcel office across all branches of the company.
“We will soon launch a big parcel service at the Metro Mass,” he stated.
