As part of its 130th anniversary celebration, the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Accra organized a career guidance seminar for children and youth at the church.
The event under the theme “Discovering Your Whole-Person Calling: The Mind, Body, Spirit”
aimed to provide an inclusive and supportive environment for young individuals to thrive and succeed.
The seminar featured professionals from various fields, including human rights activists, entrepreneurs, business leaders, priests among others. These mentors empowered students to identify their strengths and passions, guiding them towards their desired future careers.
Key speakers included Mr. Derick Yiiyi Annor,
who cautioned against cell phone distractions and encouraged creativity and originality in business ventures.
Renowned entrepreneur Derick Yiiyi Annor urged young minds to embrace their humble beginnings and take the first step towards their goals. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging and respecting modest origins, no matter how small they may seem.
“Don’t be afraid to draw inspiration from others, but don’t just copy blindly. Instead, refine their ideas using your unique skill set and resources. Find ways to improve and build upon their concepts, and make them your own. That is where true innovation and creativity happen.”
Genevieve Partington, Country Director of Amnesty International Ghana, emphasized the importance of education on access rights and cultural sensitivity, highlighting the challenges faced by rural communities and the need to bridge the gap between traditional and modern systems.
She stressed the importance of educating young people about their rights, particularly in traditional communities where cultural practices and decision-making processes may vary. She also acknowledged the value of good cultural practices, such as traditional council meetings, where disputes are resolved through discussion and dialogue.
Speaker Michael Opeyemi Ige also made a passionate appeal for a return to moral values and accountability in society, particularly among young people. He decried the prioritization of social media validation over personal character, urging individuals to build resilience, character, and positive networks instead.
The seminar inspired young minds to focus on their goals, develop unique solutions, and embrace their individuality. The event successfully provided a platform for knowledge sharing, mentorship, and empowerment, shaping the future of Ghana’s youth.
