The Assembly Member and people of Mantukwa, a rural community in the Offinso North Municipality have raised deep concerns over how pupils of the community’s M/A school share dusty classrooms with goats.
According to the Assemblymember of the Area, Alfred Wiafe, the school children sit under a mud structure provided by the community, to avoid the children from sitting under the scorching sun to learn while they await the intervention of the government or philanthropic organisations or individuals to come to their aid.
The pupils told Oyerepa FM during a visit to the school that Goats and other domestic animals have taken over their classroom structure, making them feel uncomfortable during study hours.
“We always sweep Goat shit from our classroom before studies begin. The stink from their urine is very unbearable but we have to bear the consequence. Sometimes too, we will be in the classroom learning and you will see goats and fouls entering,” they recounted.
According to them, they are sitting in the dust because the mud structure that serves as a classroom for them hasn’t been cemented.
As a result, they’re appealing to the government and other stakeholders to build proper classroom blocks for the Community to save them from endangering themselves by sitting under dilapidated structures and harsh weather conditions.
