Manhyia Palace Fines Daddy Lumba’s Family Head Over False Claims
The head of the late Daddy Lumba’s family, Kofi Owusu, has reportedly been fined by traditional authorities at the Manhyia Palace after being found guilty of making false claims during a family dispute.
According to reports on social media dated November 7, 2025, the Abusuapanin and Daddy Lumba’s sister, Ernestina Akosua Brempongmaa, were each fined a sheep as punishment.
Videos shared social media outlet showed the animals, believed to be the fine, being offloaded from a tricycle and taken into the palace grounds.
The sanction followed a hearing at the Manhyia Palace, which stemmed from the invocation of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s Great Oath (Ntamkese) by Ernestina Fosu, the elder sister of the late Highlife legend.
The oath was invoked after a confrontation between Ernestina and Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu at the Kumasi High Court on October 31, 2025.
The clash reportedly occurred after both parties appeared in court to complete legal processes ahead of a Case Management Conference in a lawsuit filed by Akosua Serwaa, the wife of Daddy Lumba, seeking recognition as his only surviving spouse.
During the confrontation, Ernestina allegedly accused the family head of attempting to proceed with funeral arrangements without conducting an autopsy on her late brother. She then invoked the Great Oath, calling on the Asantehene to intervene and halt the funeral preparations.
Following the incident, both parties were summoned to appear before the Otumfuo’s Sumankwahene in Kumasi on November 3, 2025. They were advised to settle the matter amicably as a family and return on November 7, 2025, for a final resolution.
At the sitting, it was determined that Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu’s previous actions and statements had led to the invocation of the oath, warranting the fine imposed by the Manhyia Palace.
