The Ghana Police Service has arrested Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, a man accused of engaging in romance scams by allegedly deceiving women with false promises of marriage and sharing their private images without consent.

In a statement released on social media on July 28, 2026, the Police said preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect presented himself as a pastor who hosted online church services on Instagram, where he allegedly targeted women and claimed that divine revelations had identified them as his future wives.

The Police said Kwarteng allegedly gained the confidence of his victims by interacting with their families and giving some of them promise rings as part of his marriage claims.

Investigators further alleged that the suspect obtained intimate images from some of the women and later used the materials to threaten and demand money from them.

According to the Police, Kwarteng also introduced some victims to a fraudulent car tyre business scheme, collecting thousands of dollars from them on the pretext of importing, shipping and clearing tyre containers before cutting off communication.

The Police also accused him of sharing intimate images belonging to some victims with his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, who is alleged to have threatened the affected women.

So far, seven victims have reported the matter to the authorities, with investigations indicating that the alleged activities may have been ongoing since 2021.

The two suspects have been brought before Accra Circuit Court No. 1 and charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, defrauding by false pretences and the non-consensual distribution of intimate images.

The court has remanded Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng into Police custody to reappear on August 6, 2026, while Sally Akosua Amoasah has been granted bail.

The Ghana Police Service has encouraged anyone who may have experienced similar treatment involving the suspect to report to the nearest police station to support the ongoing investigation.
