Police in the Tema Region have arrested a 32-year-old man accused of impersonating a military officer and allegedly using the false identity to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public in Ashaiman.

The suspect, identified as Bright Atsu Kudiabor, was arrested by the Ashaiman Police at about 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at an area known as “I Shall Return.”

According to the Police, Kudiabor, an ex-convict, had allegedly been presenting himself as a soldier and demanding money from individuals.

He was initially apprehended by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) with assistance from other members of the public before being handed over to the Police for further investigation.

A search conducted on the suspect reportedly led to the recovery of a military camouflage uniform, which the Police believe may have been used in his alleged impersonation.

Kudiabor is currently in Police custody and assisting investigators with inquiries into the allegations.

The Police said he is expected to be arraigned before court after investigations have been completed.

The Tema Regional Police Command has meanwhile urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report individuals who falsely present themselves as soldiers or members of other security agencies to deceive, intimidate or extort money from others.
