The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a 22-year-old man in connection with a viral video that caused public alarm after he allegedly posed as a bandit and issued threatening remarks online.
The suspect, Evans Puplampu, was arrested on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Ashaiman Community 22 following sustained intelligence gathering and police surveillance.
The video, which circulated widely on TikTok, showed Puplampu with his face covered and a caption suggesting an attack on churches in Ghana. The post quickly drew attention and sparked fear among viewers.
During interrogation, Puplampu admitted to being the individual in the video, explaining that he was imitating a trending social media style “for fun” and had no intention of causing panic or harm.
Police have seized a Samsung Galaxy A15 mobile phone believed to have been used to record and distribute the video. The device is now part of the evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Puplampu remains in police custody and is cooperating with investigators. He is expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.
Authorities have warned the public against creating or sharing content that could incite fear or disrupt public order, stressing that such actions carry serious legal consequences.
