Residents of Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region have warned the Minerals Commission not to grant prospecting licenses to mining companies without first consulting affected communities.
This follows the issuance of prospecting licenses to gold mining companies for concessions in the Mampong traditional area on a regular basis.
In collaboration with the local traditional council, the Concerned Citizens of Mampong Against Galamsey have expressed their displeasure with the Minerals Commission’s attempt to entrap the community in what they describe as “galamsey arena”.
