The Majority in Parliament has issued a formal apology to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta following an armed raid on his residence by security personnel.
Addressing the matter on the floor of Parliament, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga described the incident as unfortunate and reaffirmed the Mahama administration’s commitment to protecting the rights and freedoms of all citizens.
“H.E. President John Dramani Mahama remains committed to ensuring that the rights and liberties of every individual are respected. We have received assurances from the office of the National Security Coordinator that the incident was not intentional,” Ayariga stated.
He further assured Parliament that such an event would not be repeated.
OSP Distances Itself From Raid
Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has denied any involvement in the raid, calling it a staged event.
On February 12, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng officially named Ofori-Atta as a suspect in four major corruption investigations, including those related to the National Cathedral project and Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML).
The OSP has since declared Ofori-Atta a wanted person, demanding his immediate return for questioning and warning that legal measures could be taken to ensure his compliance.
