President John Dramani Mahama visited the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston as part of his official visit to Jamaica, using the occasion to celebrate the shared cultural heritage between Ghana and the Caribbean nation.

Accompanied by Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Michael Holness and the country’s Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, President Mahama toured the former home of legendary reggae musician Robert Nesta Marley, globally known as Bob Marley. The residence has since been transformed into a museum that preserves the life and enduring influence of the reggae icon, whose music and messages of liberation, unity and justice have inspired generations across the world, particularly in Africa.

The cultural visit came shortly after bilateral talks between President Mahama and Prime Minister Holness, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in areas including trade, investment and economic development.

Highlighting the outcome of the discussions, Prime Minister Holness wrote:

“As two nations with a shared history and strong cultural connections, we continue to build on our partnership through South-South cooperation, expanding opportunities in trade, investment, and economic development,” the post stated.

He added that both governments are determined to strengthen existing collaborations while creating new avenues for mutual prosperity.

“I look forward to the continued growth of this important partnership and the lasting benefits it will bring to Jamaica and Ghana,” the post added.

President Mahama also embraced Jamaica’s cultural traditions during the visit by interacting with members of the Rastafarian community. He delighted spectators after joining them in playing traditional drums, underscoring the deep historical and cultural links between Ghana and Jamaica. The visit forms part of ongoing efforts by both countries to strengthen diplomatic relations while celebrating their shared African heritage.
