Former President John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 elections, has urged disillusioned members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reject voter apathy and vote massively for the NDC.
Addressing supporters in the Greater Accra Region on Sunday, September 15, 2024, Mahama emphasized that this is the only way to reclaim their party from the grip of family and friends who have allegedly hijacked it.
Mahama noted that the current NPP leadership has deviated from the party’s original values, as exemplified by the administration of former President John Agyekum Kufour, who made significant contributions to Ghana’s development.
He believes that sending the NPP into opposition will prompt a much-needed reorganization, allowing the party to rediscover its roots and return to its founding principles.
“I have many friends in the NPP and I know they are disappointed in the performance of their government. Many of them have met that they won’t vote in this election because they are not happy so they say they won’t vote at all, if we won’t vote for NPP, we won’t vote at all.
We all know that this NPP that is in government is not the NPP we know. We have seen Kufour as leader of the NPP before and it’s not the same as what is happening today.
“They shouldn’t say they won’t vote. They should vote for the NDC so that we will help them to take the party to the opposition, then they will sack that family and friends people away and take their party back,” he stated.
