Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has rejected concerns that President John Dramani Mahama is sidelining party loyalists in his appointments.
Speaking in a recent interview, Fifi Kwetey emphasized that Mahama’s decisions are well-informed and strategic, rather than driven by favouritism or political appeasement.
He reassured party members that Mahama is carefully selecting individuals based on competence and the broader interest of the party and country.
“President Mahama is not making appointments lightly,” Kwetey emphasized during a recent interview.
He addressed concerns that some party members, disappointed over not securing appointments, have resorted to questioning the political allegiance of those chosen.
“There are instances where you (Roland) are interested in a position, and when you don’t get it, you find a way to stalk a bit of the disenchantment by creating the impression that the one who has been made to take place happens to be an NPP person, but it’s all part of the game.”
Kwetey stressed that Mahama is well-informed and deliberate in his choices, dismissing the notion that loyalty and hard work for the party are being overlooked.
“Those who clearly know are aware that President Mahama is much privy to a lot more information than a lot of people think, so I can tell you honestly that this is not an issue about just simply granting positions to people whose loyalty and hard work for the party is not known.”
“Sometimes supporters tend to believe that it is only people who are seen on platforms and campaign programmes who are working for the party,” Kwetey noted.
“A lot of people do not necessarily work in the very front; some of them work behind. So, the fact that you do not know somebody, you must not assume that the person is not a member of the party or is not supporting the party.”
“I think largely it’s been very well receptive,” he concluded.
