Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has disclosed that the Mahama administration has prohibited all offices within the Jubilee House from subscribing to DStv or any other satellite television services.
According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, the directive is part of broader efforts by President John Dramani Mahama to reduce government spending and promote modest, responsible governance.
He emphasized that the move is a clear demonstration of President Mahama’s commitment to prudent financial management and the efficient use of public resources.
“This is a deliberate decision to cut unnecessary costs and set the tone for modest leadership,” Kwakye Ofosu stated. “It reflects the President’s dedication to ensuring that state resources are used responsibly.”
The announcement comes amid ongoing national conversations about austerity, fiscal discipline, and the need for government institutions to lead by example in managing limited public funds.
“I can reveal to you that if you come to this house, there’s no office that is allowed to subscribe to DStv or any satellite television,” he stated.
He acknowledged that some might view the ban as a minor issue, but emphasised that the cumulative savings are substantial.
“You may consider it trivial, but when the cost was calculated, it amounted to significant public funds.
This is one of many measures the President has taken to reduce unnecessary spending,” he added.
According to him, all televisions in use at the Jubilee House are restricted to local channels only.
“You can turn on any TV here and you’ll see only local stations.
That’s what we use,” he noted, adding that the policy will be replicated in other government institutions to ensure value for money.
Kwakye Ofosu praised President Mahama for leading by example, describing him as a leader committed to making personal and institutional sacrifices for the good of the country.
“Governance involves making tough decisions.
But leaders must also show modesty in their actions, and that is exactly what President Mahama is doing,” he said.
He made this disclosure during an interview with JoyNews on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
