The founder and leader of the United Front Party (UFP), Nana Agyenim Boateng, also known as Gyataba, criticized former President John Mahama for not selecting a running mate from the Ashanti Region.
Gyataba suggested that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should have chosen a candidate from the Ashanti Region instead of Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang. He believes this decision will harm their campaign strategy.
During an interview on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show with Nana Yaw Mensah Joel, Gyataba expressed his opinion that John Mahama, as the NDC’s flagbearer, missed an opportunity by not selecting a prominent figure from the Ashanti Region to counter Dr Bawumia’s campaign efforts.
“There are personalities like Dr Sarpong, Kojo Bonsu, Spio Garbra but you didn’t choose any of them and preferred choosing Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang as his running mate which represents no hope for the NDC” he stated.
However, he explained that as a Presidential candidate, you need someone who can step in the big shoes and work even in your absence and is capable of leading.
“You need a running mate who can work for you even when you are not around and can help you in your Campaign, step into the big shoes as a President,” he said.
He further questioned the NDC as a party if they truly have researchers and if they had how were they involved in this process because he sees them as “useless” for sitting down to have Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang named as running mate to John Mahama.
“Because choosing his running mate from Ashanti Region could have allowed him to compete with Dr Bawumia massively and could have won him more votes from the other regions” he said.
“Look I am not in any way trying to attack the personality or credibility of Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang and do not intend to run her down because I have so much respect for her as a woman and what she has achieved” he added.
