At least 10 people sustained injuries on Sunday afternoon during a chaotic incident at Ritz Junction in Madina, where a fire outbreak was followed by a shooting involving an armed man.
One of the victims, Ernest Opare—currently receiving treatment at Pentecost Hospital along with four others—confirmed the events in an interview with Adom News. He revealed he had been shot in the forehead, back, and buttocks.
According to Opare, the suspected gunman—known locally as Area—arrived at the scene visibly agitated and wielding a pump-action shotgun.
“In full view of police and fire officers, Area started shooting indiscriminately at people and into the air,” Opare recounted.
He also alleged that despite the presence of police personnel, no immediate action was taken to disarm or arrest the suspect. The motive behind the attack remains unknown.
The chaos unfolded as firefighters from the Madina Fire Station battled a large blaze, reportedly originating from a washing bay. The fire destroyed over 50 wooden structures and metal containers, leaving several residents displaced and significant property lost.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to the emergency, working to contain the flames and prevent further spread.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the shooting or the alleged inaction of officers at the scene, while investigations into both the fire and the gun violence are expected to continue.
