Lynx Entertainment CEO Richie Mensah has officially announced that the company is no longer operating as a record label for artistes, but now functions as a distribution company.
For some time now, Lynx Entertainment has not appeared to operate as a traditional record label, prompting questions from social media users about its current status. Addressing the confusion, Richie Mensah clarified that Lynx is no longer a record label.
He said, “Let me do what I didn’t do in the past—announce it properly. I promised myself that when I turned 40, I would retire from music, and I am honoring that promise because I value commitments I make to myself. So what I started doing was gradually phasing out the music management part of Lynx. Currently, Lynx no longer manages any artistes. Lynx is officially out of the artiste management business. I mean, never say never—I cannot predict what the future holds—but as we stand now, Lynx does not manage artistes.”
He further explained that the company has transitioned into a distribution-focused business. He also revealed plans for a new venture called Lynx Electronics, aimed at producing music accessories for enhanced listening experiences.
“What we have done is convert the record label into a distribution company. We have shifted our focus to distribution, and the next project I am concentrating on is Lynx Electronics. For over twenty years, I have been creating music for people to enjoy, and now I am focusing on how they can better experience that music. Last year, as you may recall, we introduced Lynx Reverb—our headphones—and very soon, we will release our own speakers. We have moved from creating music to creating the tools that allow people to enjoy music.”
Lynx Entertainment has been one of Ghana’s leading record labels and multimedia companies, playing a major role in shaping modern Afrobeats and highlife music. Iconic acts such as KiDi, Kuami Eugene, and MzVee were all managed and produced under the label.
