Lawyer Moses Foh-Amoaning, Executive Secretary of the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values, has expressed worry over President Akufo-Addo’s responses on LGBTQ bill issues.
The president during a joint press briefing with US Vice President Kamala Harris at the Jubilee House on Monday, refuted the suggestion that Ghana already had an anti-LGBT law.
“The legislation is a piece of legislation that is being proposed as a private member’s bill.” This is not official legislation, but it is one that is being mooted by a handful of private members,” President Akufo-Addo stated while responding to a question from a New York Times journalist.
Reacting to President Akufo-Addo’s response on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, lawyer Moses Foh-Amoaning claimed they are not happy about the president’s response.
“We knew Kamala Harris’ mission in Ghana, but we didn’t want to talk about it. Our intelligence showed us that Kamala Harris’ visit was to push the LGBTQ agenda. So I can tell you all that the question by the New York Times journalist was staged. But the person who surprised us is President Akufo-Addo.
“We are not happy with Akufo-Addo’s response on LGBTQ issues. He was representing Ghanaians on the international level but not his party (NPP) and he did not represent us well. The views that have been articulated in parliament are not the views of a handful; they are the views of the majority of Ghanaians, and the president is representing us, so he should have been able to say the views of Ghanaians.” He told Kwesi Parker Wilson host of the show.
