Member of Parliament for the Ejura Sekyedumase Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Bawa Braimah has expressed worry over the violence report by the Foundation for Security Development in Africa.
The Foundation for Security Development in Africa in its latest report ranked the Ashanti as a region with the highest number of violent incidents in Ghana.
Per the report, out of the total 86 cases recorded within the period of 1st June to 31st July 2022, Ashanti region topped the list with a total of 24 incidents, representing 28% of total incidents.
Reacting to the report on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the Ranking Member of Defense and Interior Committee of Parliament reiterated the need for the people of Ashanti to be worried about the violent incidents in the region.
“Look at the situation that led to the death of some people after the murder of social activist, Kaaka. The incidents at Kumasi Islamic Senor High School were worried.” He stated.
He disclosed the Defense and Interior Committee has already met with the sector minister over the security in the country.
“In dealing with these violent issues. The Police, civil society organization, traditional leaders have role to play. We meet with the Interior minister on things the police service lack on how to handle crowd control”. Alhaji Bawa Braimah emphasized.
“Traditional leaders and the civil society organization should educate the youth on the need for peaceful coexistence. Because if we don’t use dialogues to settle issues we would end up causing violence.” The MP advised, he added.
