Legendary Ghanaian gospel musician Maame Tiwaa, celebrated for her soaring vocals with the Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo band, has passed away. She died in the early hours of Sunday, December 7, 2025.
Born Mary Tiwaa, she was a towering figure in Ghana’s contemporary gospel landscape for more than three decades, earning widespread admiration for her unmatched vocal strength and the spiritual depth of her ministry.
Maame Tiwaa was renowned for her unforgettable contributions to some of Asomafo’s most iconic tracks, including “Wo Haw Ne Sen?”, “Awurade Ka Me Ho,” “Yen Fa Oye Nkoaa,” and “Mensuro.” These songs became household favourites and cherished staples in churches across the country.
Beyond group performances, she fascinated audiences with her solo ministrations, often described as soul-stirring, heartfelt, and deeply anointed. Her distinct voice became inseparable from the signature sound of Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo, helping cement the group’s place as one of Ghana’s most influential gospel music ministries.
Her passing marks the end of an era, leaving a void in the gospel fraternity and the countless lives touched by her ministry.
