The state has officially withdrawn all criminal charges against former National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, and the party’s Communications Officer, Anthony Kwaku Boahen.
Attorney-General Dominic Ayine made the announcement, marking the end of legal proceedings that began in December 2019.
The two NDC officials had been on trial over a leaked audio recording in which Ofosu Ampofo was allegedly heard plotting to incite violence and unrest, with the intention of blaming the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The recording purportedly outlined plans involving kidnappings, arson, and verbal attacks on National Peace Council Chairman, Prof. Emmanuel Asante, and Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa.
All charges, including conspiracy to cause harm and conspiracy to assault a public officer, have now been dropped.
Both men had pleaded not guilty, and Ofosu Ampofo had also faced an additional charge of assaulting a public officer, which he consistently denied.
With the state’s decision to discontinue the case, the long-running legal battle has officially come to an end.
