Landlord stabs tenant to death over electricity dispute

Residents of Medie Ketewa, a suburb of Medie in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, have been left in shock after a middle-aged man, identified as Opoku Agyemang, was allegedly stabbed to death by his landlord following a dispute over electricity bill payment.

The 37-year-old, who is married with three children, was reportedly owing GH¢30 for electricity charges.

According to reports, the deceased and his landlord, Kofi Koranteng, were not only tenant and landlord but also long-time friends and work colleagues, making the incident even more surprising to residents.

Eyewitnesses said it is still unclear what exactly triggered the confrontation over the small outstanding amount, given the close relationship between the two men.

A witness, Enoch Idan Danquah, who spoke to Onua News, said the landlord was unhappy about how the tenant handled electricity bill payments and subsequently invited him to his room for a discussion.

However, the situation is said to have escalated during the meeting, with the landlord allegedly pulling out a machete and stabbing the tenant fatally.

The 50-year-old landlord, also a father of five, reportedly fled the scene after the incident.

The matter has since been reported to the police, while investigations are underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the killing.

The Kotoku Police have also conveyed the body to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
