Barima Okunini Gyebi Kwame Ababio II, Kyekyewerehene, has urged the people of Akyem and Akuapem to unite and protect their farmlands from illegal miners (galamsey) who are destroying properties and water bodies.
Speaking at the Bomuky3 Cocoa Festival, KyekyewereHene expressed sadness over the destruction of cocoa lands in Akuapem due to illegal mining.
He further noted that the quest for gold has led to the destruction of cocoa lands, which can feed entire communities.
Nana Ababio II cautioned that if the people of Akuapem and Akyem do not rise up to protect their lands, investors will continue to destroy their cocoa lands and sell them off.
Barima Okunini Gyebi Kwame Ababio II, emphasized the importance of safeguarding their lands, stating, “This is the time for Akuapem to come together and safeguard our lands.”
