Ghanaian media personality Kwasi Kyei Darkwa, popularly known as KKD, has spoken candidly about his son Kweku, saying he remains committed to his role as a father regardless of his son’s personal choices and identity.

The Presidential Special Envoy to the Caribbean Region said he does not allow matters beyond his control to become a source of distress, choosing instead to support his son while leaving certain issues to prayer.

“Kweku is trans, so what? He’s a grown man. It doesn’t bother me. I deal with what I have control over. The things I have no control over, I go on my knees and pray about,” KKD stated.

The veteran broadcaster also challenged the idea that parents can completely determine the personalities and paths their children will take.

According to him, raising children requires guidance, love and acceptance rather than an attempt to dictate every aspect of their lives.

“Parents are shepherds, not engineers. You can have a son or daughter who’s autistic, masochistic, or stubborn. It is not your fault,” he explained.

KKD further disclosed that he does not engage in heated exchanges with people who ridicule his family over the matter. Instead, he said he feels sorry for those who make such comments.

“When they say that, I don’t tell them I’m annoyed at their comments; I tell them, ‘I pity you,’” he noted.

His comments have sparked renewed public discussion about parenting, personal identity and the responsibility of parents to support their adult children despite differences in expectations or life choices.
