Tension is escalating in the Kwahu Traditional Area in the Eastern Region following the mysterious disappearance of the queen mother, Nana Adwoa Gyamfua III.
The Paramount Chief of Kwahu, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, confirmed the development in an interview on Adom FM’s morning news on Monday, November 17, 2025.
According to the chief, a group of heavily armed men—believed to be police officers—stormed the queen mother’s residence at the Abene Palace around 4:30 a.m., firing shots indiscriminately before carrying out what appeared to be a coordinated operation. Several individuals were arrested and taken away.
It was only after the raid that palace authorities realised the queen mother was missing, raising concerns that she may have been abducted.
“The people were arrested and taken into vehicles to an unknown location. I called the Kwahu Police Commander to find out whether he sanctioned the operation, but he said he didn’t know the men involved and was unaware of any such exercise,” Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III recounted.
The chief further disclosed that preliminary information suggests the operation may have been led by his predecessor, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, who was destooled in 2024 after ruling for seven years.
The police are yet to issue an official statement on the matter, and the whereabouts of Nana Adwoa Gyamfua III remain unknown.
